Yep, you can even use the coffee to make yourself a nice cup of joe and then use the grounds that would normally be thrown away in a nice scrubby soap. Plus we can add Grapefruit Essential Oil which has been shown to tighten and tone skin and Shea Butter to help nourish dry, wrinkled skin and add elasticity.
Here’s how to dry your used coffee grounds: Spread the used coffee grounds out on a cookie sheet and allow to dry. I like to turn the oven on just until it’s hot, pop the coffee grounds in, and turn the oven off. Leave the grounds in the oven while you go to work or run errands. By the time you get home, or after a few hours, they will be dry. Melt and Pour soap is easy to use, long-lasting and helps your skin stay moisturized. It’s fast and easy to customize. Plus you can use it right away and don’t have to wait for it to cure like cold process soap. You can find melt and pour soap at some craft stores or order online. Just beware that not all soap is made the same. Some has harsh detergents and questionable preservatives so to ensure the soap you use on your family is the best, buy it here. Our melt and pour soap is made with organic oils and makes your skin clean and silky smooth. For this Scrubby Soap project, you will need: --1# Melt and Pour Soap --1-2 teaspoons Dried Coffee Grounds --1 oz Shea Butter, Coconut Oil, or other moisturizing oil (optional but awesome on skin) --8 grams Grapefruit Essential Oil --Rubbing Alcohol in a spray bottle --Soap Molds (or recycled plastic containers like yogurt cups, applesauce cups, etc. work well) --Microwave Safe Bowl --Spoon Let’s get to it! Cut your Melt and Pour soap into approx 1” chunks and put into Microwave Safe Bowl. Microwave for 20 to 30 seconds and then remove and stir. Keep microwaving in short 20 to 30 second bursts and stir until soap is melted. Add 1 oz Shea Butter (or oil of your choice) and stir until melted/incorporated. If soap is hardening too fast, pop back in the microwave for a few seconds. Stir in Essential Oil. Lastly stir in coffee grounds. If soap is too hot, the coffee will sink. Let soap cool slightly so coffee grounds stay dispersed throughout the soap. Pour into molds. Spray the top of freshly poured soap with rubbing alcohol to remove bubbles. Allow to cool completely for an hour or so depending on the size of soap mold. Pop out of the mold and it’s ready to use! (Wrap some in plastic wrap for a cute gift :) Scrub all over hands and body and especially places where cellulite can show up like backs of legs and buttocks. Great for gardeners or mechanics to scrub off dirt and grime or to soften rough feet, too. Do you like the sound of this recipe? Will you try this DIY or have you already made something similar?
