Happy New Year! I hope you had a fabulous 2015 and are on your way to having an awesome 2016. I'm certain some New Year's resolutions have already been broken but that's ok. Everyday that we wake up, we are given the gift to change our mindset and create a better life. We can start new goals any day of the year.... not just on January 1st.
One of my goals for 2016 is to share more information with you about chemicals and natural alternatives in personal care products. I am always doing research to bring you the BEST products and thought it may be helpful to share more of the information that I am learning and using to create awesome skin products. So now that I have announced my intentions to the world, I better deliver, right?! The plan is to share some information or a skin care recipe with you every single week.
It seems like a lot of people set New Year's resolutions to lose weight so I wanted to share the Appetite Control Essential Oil Blend with you. Breathe in the Appetite Control oil and it will help YOU stay in control. This oil is a blend of the following:
Did you know fall is the perfect time to switch to a Natural Deodorant? Summer is so hot that when detoxing from aluminum based deodorants, your body sweats out all the chemicals. And when it's hot out, that's a little miserable. Cooler weather means easier detoxing. Here's why you should rid yourself of the aluminum.
1. Aluminum clogs your pores and inhibits your body's natural process of releasing toxins
2. Aluminum could potentially cause tumors and cancer (There is a huge debate about this, but really, why take the chance?)
3. When using Natural Deodorants, the body actually sweats LESS.
Natural Deodorants do take some getting used to. Your body needs to flush out all the chemicals from the aluminum antiperspirant and become accustomed to the natural product.
Here's the ingredient list for our Natural Deodorant and what each item does for you.
Beeswax: Antibacterial and anti-inflammatory. Softens and protects the skin.
Organic Coconut Oil: Moisturizes skin and is antibacterial.
Baking Soda: Balances pH and combats body odor.
Arrowroot Powder: Non GMO and absorbs wetness.
Essential Oils: Eat up odor-causing bacterial and help you smell great!
I'd love to hear your stories and thoughts about switching to a chemical-free deodorant. Would you like my recipe so you can try to make your own?
Cellulite? What the heck is it...and do I have it? Oh, no…. how do I get rid of it?
If you are like me, you rarely put on a bathing suit ~ let alone check your back side out in the mirror when wearing one. Besides only really heavy people have cellulite, right? Wrong.
Skinny people can develop cellulite, too. And if your mom had cellulite, chances are you are at a higher chance of developing it, too. Thanks Mom!
WebMD says that cellulite is just normal fat under the skin that appears bumpy and puckered. ewww.
There are ways to reduce the appearance of that bumpy fat.
Easy Recipe: Rub vitamin e oil on affected area and wrap with plastic wrap. Relax for an hour or so and wash well with soap and water. Do this several times per week until you’re satisfied with appearance.
Serious Recipe: Slightly warm ¼ c Olive Oil & ¼ c Aloe Vera Gel, add 2T Sea Salt and ½ c Sea Clay or Bentonite Clay. Mix well. Optional: mix in a few drops of Grapefruit Essential Oil. Rub on affected area and wrap gently with a towel. Relax for 60 minutes and then wash well with soap and water. Do this several times per week until you’re satisfied with appearance.
Let us know what works for you! And if you try these recipes, shout out and let us know how it went
What's the big hype about exfoliating anyway? Well, if you want younger looking skin, exfoliate those dry, dead skin cells off! It's easy to do and should be done on your face and body EVERY single day. Exfoliating reduces and prevents fine lines and wrinkles and leaves healthy, fresh skin behind. It lightens dark spots, helps clear acne, improves skin's texture, reduces the appearance of large pores, and stimulates healthy skin renewal. Everyone can benefit!
There are many choices on what you can use to exfoliate. For body ~ a loofa with some body wash or a burlap soap pouch works great. We make an easy to use Loofa Soap, too. There are many gentle and effective scrubs available that you can use on your face and body like Moisturizing Sugar Scrub or Walnut Scrub. Don't worry ~ none of our scrubs contain microbeads that are polluting the oceans.
To exfoliate effectively, gently move product in a circular motion all over face, body, and feet. Don't overdo it especially if you are just starting for the first time. If you have sensitive skin, try exfoliating every few days until your skin gets used to the new routine.
Enjoy your healthy, glowing, younger-looking skin!
Parabens are used in many products as a preservative to inhibit mold and bacteria growth. Studies have found that parabens mimic hormones in our bodies and have actually been found in breast tumors. Parabens have also been shown to reduce the sperm count in males, alter the formation of reproductive organs, and cause skin cancer. Women and children have the highest risk for developing problems associated with using products that contain parabens.
While we certainly don’t want mold and bacteria growing in our personal care products, there are more natural preservatives available.
All of Bath and Body Creations’ products are paraben-free. We don’t want to take the chance of potentially causing any tumors, cancer, or reproductive issues. Some of our products are preservative-free. If it doesn’t contain water and won’t be stored in a shower where water could get inside, we don’t think it needs one. When we do add a preservative, it is a paraben-free, formaldehyde-free preservative that is gentle and effective.
Of course there is a large controversy about parabens and some companies claim there is no harm in using them. Do your own research if you are concerned and make smart choices. If a product could potentially cause cancer, I don't want to use it on my family and I certainly won't knowingly sell it to you :)
LOVE being outside in the summer but hate those pesky bugs that go along with it! I searched some natural remedies and came up with a list of essential oils that scare off those little flying creatures. Try a blend of several oils for better and broader protection.
Or try my natural Citronella and Lemongrass Spray. It has a combination of 7 different oils and smells pleasant. What oils work best at repelling bugs for you?
Take a whiff of Lavender and you may become relaxed. Sniff some Eucalyptus & Spearmint and you may feel your stress melt away. Inhale Sweet Orange and your mood may become instantly uplifted. Essential oils are gaining popularity and just about every market Inspired by Jan attends, customers are looking for essential oils. Since Inspired by Jan uses many essential oils in our lotions and soaps, this is a simple addition to our product line. It is very important to research essential oils and their suggested guidelines prior to attempting use. Some oils should not be used directly on the skin and must be diluted with a carrier oil first. Also some should not be used by pregnant women. So please, please, please research prior to buying these powerful, concentrated oils. A couple books which I have found helpful include The Complete Book of Essential Oils & Aromatherapy by Valerie Ann Worwood (you will want to buy this one!) or 500 Formulas for Aromatherapy: Mixing Essential Oils for Everyday Use by Carol Schiller & David Schiller.
Or if you don't want to do the research and worry about diluting essential oils, just purchase Inspired by Jan lotions, soaps, or body washes which are already made & scented with these wonderful oils!
Shea butter comes from the nut of the karite tree and has been used in Africa for thousands of years to improve skin and hair conditions. Shea butter contains vitamins A and E which help improve problems such as blemishes, wrinkles, scars, and dryness. Shea butter has also been used for muscle soreness, eczema, dermatitis, skin discoloration, stretch marks, arthritis, stiff joints, and bruising. Inspired by Jan makes a Shea Butter Whip Body Butter and has been selling out at local markets. Give it a try on your skin condition or use it as a smooth moisturizer. A little goes a long way as this is a pure butter with very little added to make it into a whip.
